Intersections of Sociology with Crip Theory, Critical Disability Studies and Mad Studies (2025)

A one-day hybrid symposium for PGR researchers and community members led by Fraedan Mastrantonio, Katie Munday and me. The symposium featured keynote speakers, panel discussions, and creative workshops, fostering connection among participants interested in these critical fields.

The event was supported by the British Sociological Association, SCDTP Interdisciplinary Event Fund and the University of Southampton Doctoral College Activities Fund. We are also thankful for the work of BSL Interpreters Dianne Lawrence and Crissy Dommett, Dr Ben Walters’ Badge Café, Beyond Reflections, and volunteers Elinor Lim, Maria-Louise Rolfe and Bobbi Elman

You can read more about the event, including a full list of invited speakers and presentation topics, here on Katie's blog.

The image shows a person with glasses, who is slightly out of focus. They are smiling and holding up a handmade badge toward the camera. The badge has a multicoloured drawing on it with a tree in the background and in front of this, a line of people holding hands. At the top of the badge are the letters LEX in black, with a small heart.

The image shows a person with long dark hair, their left hand resting on their chin. They are slightly out of focus but you can see they are smiling. They hold a handmade badge toward the camera. The badge has an image of a polar bear on it. Letters cut out from various magazines and articles have been cut out an arranged to spell 'love weird'.
